The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Back to C.S. Lewis with a bit of a switch up. We are going to read a couple of the kids books written by Lewis for the express purpose of passing on Western culture and values in the form of stories. Unlike Tolkien, a friend of his, Lewis was also explicit in using the Christian story as the core of Western culture. This is most clearly seen in this first book of the series which is the salvation story of Christ set in a different world - the land of Narnia.

While the Chronicles of Narnia are children's books, filled with fantasy and adventure, they are also a great primer in the Christian faith. We will dig into some of the richness of both Narnia and our world.

Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places.

This book is a collection of letters written by Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to “Our Father Below,” to his nephew Wormwood. These letters meant to help guide the novice demon as he tries to secure the damnation of an ordinary young man. With a strong sense of irony and great satire, Lewis explores the topic of spiritual warfare.
